Golden
Named to rival Silver City, a mining camp near Castle Mountain in the 1800s, Golden sits between the snow topped peaks of the Purcell and Rocky Mountains. Explore the Rockies from one of the best vantage points — from the saddle. Trail rides offer a great opportunity to see the wilderness and learn some history of the area. Trek along the Blaeberry River as it streams down from Howse Pass, or amble along the historic David Thompson Trail. The stunning scenery and sweet-scented mountain air are sure to refresh the mind of any city dweller.
In Glacier National Park, discover the remains of the once elegant Glacier House atop Rogers Pass. Part of the Rogers Pass National Historic Site, the foundations of the Glacier House, along with sections of abandoned railway track and a few stone bridges, tell the story of the railway's journey through the Rocky Mountains. Throughout July and August, treat yourself to the “Sounds of Summer.” Friday nights during the summer, Golden offers visitors and locals alike free street performances at the downtown Fountain Plaza. With the star twinkling above and the sound of music and laughter floating on the breeze, this is the perfect end to your Golden day!
